Background

Women of Faith in Action is an inclusive feminist women’s rights organization based in Uganda that was formed in December 2019 with an aim to restore faith, confidence among women who abandoned their spirituality due to the biases, stigma and discrimination.

Our programs not only focus on the diverse spiritual lifestyle of an individual but also mental, physical and financial well-being of marginalized women in Uganda.

We serve marginalized women in their diversities countrywide who are facing conflicting loyalties of loving their higher power and are facing a lot of hate in worship. We are here to break barriers and debunk religious myths and stereotypes that have made women feel like they don’t belong in leadership positions in the Spiritual setting. We have read the stories of women in the Bible and their strong contributions. But due to stigma, discrimination and the patriarchal society we live in, most voices and visibility of Queer women in places of worship have been shadowed in these spaces. We are here to hold each other’s hands, grow and walk our spiritual journeys together.

Women of Faith in action as an entity is focused on authentically connecting women as a community both online and offline, growing spiritually and becoming further equipped to elevate their influence and leadership. We do our work through various forms which include; media, technology, human rights advocacy, financial literacy and mentorship using the feminist approach in order to build connections that will exponentially grow friendships and a diverse community of women in faith in Uganda as well as equip them with resources and tools that will help them experience a deeper spiritual awakening since we believe that they are bestowed with a Higher power-given purpose to bring revival and elevation in their local communities. 

At Women of Faith in Action we believe that now is the time to empower more marginalized women to use their Higher-given gifts, talents, and experiences in their personal and home life, leadership spaces, local worship spaces, workplace, and community.

Partnerships

The organization works with feminists, Civil Society Organizations, Community Based Organizations in the human rights’ fraternity together with development partners to advocate and champion the rights, needs and best interests of all women without discrimination to sustain synergies and community collaboration in Uganda. WOFA looks forward to partnering with regional and international bodies that promote the human rights of women.

Our Objectives

• To empower women in all their diversities to re-gain their faith and comfort within their spirituality.
• To improve the livelihood of all women in their diversities through equipping them with entrepreneurship skills that will enable them develop and sustain their income generation ventures which will improve their livelihoods.
• To build strong systems and alliances with like-minded organizations in Uganda.
• To ensure that all women in their diversity have access to safe spaces where they can freely express and be their authentic selves especially when it comes to freedom of worship.
• To end all forms of stigma and discrimination against women in their diversities through advocacy and lobbying at regional, national and international levels.

What We Do

Religious inclusive advocacy:  Women of Faith in Action focuses on empowering marginalized women in Uganda to reclaim their spiritual identities and leadership roles within religious settings. This activity aims to break down barriers, dispel religious myths, and challenge discriminatory practices. By organizing interfaith dialogues and workshops, the organization fosters mutual understanding, solidarity, and a sense of community among women of diverse faiths. This initiative promotes gender equality and inclusivity, enabling women to explore and express their spirituality freely and confidently in their religious communities.

Wellness and wellbeing: Women of Faith in Action focuses on enhancing the mental, physical, and emotional health of marginalized women in Uganda. This activity provides comprehensive support through counseling services, support groups, and well-being workshops tailored to address the unique challenges these women face. By promoting self-care practices, offering access to mental health professionals, and fostering a supportive community, the organization aims to improve overall quality of life. This helps women build resilience, boost their confidence, and achieve a balanced and fulfilling life, empowering them to participate fully in their personal, spiritual, and community endeavors.

Advocacy: Women of Faith in Action focuses on transforming public perceptions and attitudes towards marginalized women in Uganda. This activity involves strategic campaigns to challenge stereotypes, debunk myths, and promote positive narratives through media, community outreach, and educational programs. By sharing powerful stories and fostering dialogues, the organization aims to create empathy, understanding, and support for marginalized women. This initiative seeks to shift societal attitudes, reduce discrimination, and build an inclusive community where women are recognized, respected, and empowered to participate fully in all aspects of life.

Economic empowerment: Women of Faith in Action aims to enhance the financial independence of marginalized women in Uganda. This activity offers financial literacy training, entrepreneurship workshops, and access to resources such as microloans and business mentorship. By equipping women with skills in budgeting, saving, and income generation, the organization helps them build sustainable livelihoods. This initiative empowers women to achieve economic stability, boost their confidence, and increase their capacity to contribute to their families and communities. Ultimately, it fosters self-sufficiency and resilience, enabling women to thrive economically and socially.In an effort to combat poverty among marginalized women, we engage our beneficiaries in small income generating activities like opening up retail shops ,life skills training, mushroom growing to mention but a few.

Research and documentation: Women of Faith in Action focuses on gathering and analyzing data on the experiences of marginalized women in Uganda. This activity involves conducting surveys, interviews, and case studies to document challenges, successes, and needs. The organization uses this data to inform their programs, advocate for policy changes, and raise awareness about issues affecting these women. By creating comprehensive reports and publications, they aim to provide a factual basis for advocacy efforts and contribute to the broader understanding of gender and religious inclusivity. This initiative ensures that the voices of marginalized women are heard and their stories accurately represented.We do research and documentation to know what is taking place around the issue of human rights and equality.
